Treatment Duration

The duration of therapy is variable and depends on you, your budget, and what you'd like to work on. Your therapist will collaborate with you throughout your treatment to determine how many and what kind of sessions and/or services you may need to receive the greatest benefit based on your concerns.

Superbills and Out of Network Care (Click to Expand)

Metaphor Therapy offers different ways to pay for psychotherapy. Regardless of the method you choose, you'll pay for your visits in full at the time of service.

If you don't have out of network coverage or don't want your insurance involved in your mental health care, our staff therapists offer a discount to clients who are not using insurance. Self pay rates are noted in clinician fee schedules above. Superbills are not available for self pay clients.

If you'd like to use your insurance, Metaphor Therapy is an out of network provider for all insurance plans. Usual and customary rates are included in clinician fee schedules above. In order to have your insurance cover psychotherapy, you need to have a qualifying mental health diagnosis. Not everyone already has a mental health diagnosis on file and not everyone who might qualify for one wants it added to their medical record. If you already have a mental health diagnosis on file, this is less of a concern. Metaphor Therapy's office handles billing as a courtesy for MacKenzie's clients.

Some insurance companies will let their members submit receipts from providers for services, and then reimburse the member for part of the cost of services. How much insurance pays is based on the member's insurance plan, and factors in items like deductibles, copays, and coinsurance. The special receipt is called a superbill, and any member of our clinical team can provide superbills for you to submit to your insurance. A superbill includes our names and addresses, a diagnosis, a service code and description, and the amount you paid. Most insurance companies do not cover psychotherapy services with pre-licensed clinicians (AMFTs, APCCs, ASWs, etc.), even with a superbill.

Please note that regardless of whether insurance pays or not, the client is ultimately responsible for the entire cost of the visit. As a result, we strongly recommend checking in with your insurance to learn more about your coverage.

Receipts for your own records, FSAs, and HSAs are available regardless of how you pay for therapy.
